Biosecurity Testing

All bloodwork for 2021-2022 biosecurity testing has come back and all goats are negative. Edna and Dolores are G6S normal by parentage, Clarence is G6S normal by testing.

 

CAE- 2021 negative

Caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) virus is a member of the small ruminant lentiviruses, which may lead to chronic disease of the joints, and on rare occasions, encephalitis in goat kids less than six months of age. ~WADDL

 

Johne’s- 2021 negative

Johne's disease is an infectious bacterial disease that primarily affects the intestinal tract and associated lymph nodes of ruminants.

Q-Fever- 2021 negative

Q fever is a disease caused by the bacteria Coxiella burnetii. This bacteria naturally infects some animals, such as goats, sheep, and cattle. C. burnetii bacteria are found in the birth products (i.e. placenta, amniotic fluid), urine, feces, and milk of infected animals.

CL- 2021 negative

CL is a chronic, contagious disease caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. The disease is characterized by abscess formation in the skin, lymph nodes, and internal organs.

G6S- Normal

Caprine Mucopolysaccharideosis-IIID is a lysosomal storage disorder, caused by a genetic mutation which results in a defective G6S enzyme. G6S deficient goats may present with neurological deficiencies, which negatively affects growth and development, and can often lead to early death.

Brucellosis- 2021 negative

Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria. People can get the disease when they are in contact with infected animals or animal products contaminated with the bacteria. Animals that are most commonly infected include sheep, cattle, goats, pigs, and dogs, among others.
